.....smack dab in the middle of Week 8 of our kitchen reno. I remember around week 2 or 3 I said to Mike that I thought we were doing pretty good with meal preparation. He said "just wait till we are at week 8". Well here we are and I think we are still doing pretty good.
Sure we eat out here and there and it's definitely not convenient or a walk in the park to prepare food but for the most part with a BBQ and a side burner there isn't much we haven't been able to make. I thought I'd share how we made a yummy chicken pasta a few weeks ago.
My first love is my Le Creuset cast iron pots (which I am having shelves made in the island specifically for) but I have this great Martha Stewart cast iron pot which I used instead on the BBQ. I wasn't about to risk my LC's.
We stick the old T-fal right over the grill and it works great. Just remember not to grab the hot handle without protection. {{Ask Mike how he knows}}. Oh and try not to look at the scary white piece of chicken.
When you don't have a sink handy this is about as good as straining pasta gets.
The sauce takes it's turn on the side burner
And Voila! It was super yummo.
SO NOW here's the part where you are so going to feel sorry for me. This is where our "food prep area is". Warning: it ain't pretty.
Yep, that's my laundry room. Do not laugh at the 1988 diamond distressed wall paper border!!! Stop laughing! This is the one room in the house that we haven't touched. It's the one room in the house that I could care less about and I'm not sure if I will ever tackle this room.
We have our cutlery and tea towels etc in the IKEA wire basket stand. Essentials such as coffee, spices etc are in the wooden cabinet. I had seen a picture of a cabinet just like this years ago on a Home Depot printed advertisement and I loved it. I couldn't find it to purchase so I had it made at a Hutterite colony not far from where my parents live. It's been years and I haven't taken the plunge to paint it yet. Maybe that's a DIY project I can do soon. Any suggestions on colour? White? Green? Blue?
Oh and here is the most hateful part. This is the sink. UG-LY! You try washing a huge pot in there and see if you'd like it. Nice scallops hey? lol.
I have my most used utensils in this garden bag that my dad gave me. THIS has been very handy and I quite like this. We've put a huge dent in our 150 bulk pack of paper plates.
So there ya have it. Just a little insight to behind the scenes of the kitchen reno. Not much going on in the house this week. I spoke with our project manager about the trim that was just sprayed. For the most part it's good but there are some runs and over spray on the trim. I thought I could live with it but I know me and I can't. He's going to get the painter back to fix them. Won't the painter just LOVE me! Yikesa.
