Time for a fun new Embellish Challenge!

 

This week we are so excited to be using some amazing cling stamps from our new sponsor JustRite.  Thank you JustRite!

 

 

 

 

The stamp set you see here is called Friendship Blooms ~~so purdy!  It happens to coordinates with Spellbinders™ S4-312 Blossom Three and  S4-310 Labels Eighteen which is great.  I love any and all dies so I'm sold!

 

I heat embossed the label and the little flowers which are actually from the borderline stamp in the set.  I then hand trimmed them out individually.

Loonie Stampers Challenge 140

 

 

 

Can you believe this is our 140th challenge?  Wow, time flies.  {{I wish that # was my weight...ha}}

 

Dee asked us to use patterned paper as our card base for this challenge.  I used Cosmo Cricket paper and placed a felt flower on the leafy vine print.  Some alpha stickers, green felt leaves and a scalloped border finished it off.  I'm not sure you could get much easier than this.

 

 

 

 

 

The other day I was chatting by email with my friend Marlou and we were talking about these flower dies and she mentioned that rolling them in felt is finicky.  I hadn't tried felt yet but yes she was right.  My big fat fingers didn't work well so I wanted to show you what I came up with. 

 

I totally recommend using a quilling tool when using patterned paper but felt won't fit into it.  I happen to have these little metal clips which I bought to make my nieces some ribbon hair clips {{um, yeah, that hasn't happened yet}}.  Anywho....they worked great.   

 

Just clip it onto the outside edge.

 

 

Then start rolling it away from you.

 

 

Once you get to the end you can loosen the rose up a bit with your fingers.  I used a few stitches through the bottom to hold it together as well as a big glue dot.  Once the flower was how I liked it then I removed the metal clip.  It works great to tighten the centre of the rose too if you find it's gotten too loose.

 

 

So there ya have it.  Hope that little tip helps some of you out.  Oh btw....I was over at Wendy's the other night and just found out that MFT has 2 smaller sizes of these rose dies.  OMG I love!  She let me borrow it till I can get my own.  Thanks GF - I can't wait to make even tinier rolled flowers!

 

 

 

 

Loonie Stampers Challenge 139

 

 

 

 

Happy Easter everyone!  Who else is happy that the work week is over and we get to enjoy a long weekend?!  Me, me, me!

 

Todays challenge is to "use wood".  I kinda sorta TOTALLY enjoyed making this card.  This is why I LOVE doing these challenges with these BFF's of mine.  They come up with stuff that I never would have thought to do on my own.  I've had these thin wooden sheets from Stampin Up for ages and have barely touched them.  What better way to use them then to make an adorable little bird house.  The wood sheets emboss wonderfully.  I just ran it through my Cuttlebug in a polka dot folder.  The sheets have a white paper backing which I traced out a bird house shape onto and cut it out with scissors.  Yes, these little sheets of wood are fantastic.

 

 

 

 

 

But I didn't stop there.....I used more wood.  I had bought some "Easter" twigs at the dollar store because they had the cutest bird nests attached to them (I'll show those below in a minute).  I tied a few pieces of that twig together with some bakers twine and adhered it below the birdhouse.

 

 

 

 

 

I heat embossed the music notes (Glee stamp set from TT) and put a punched red border strip below.  The hand trimmed sentiment completes the card.  The sentiment is Ali Edwards handwriting which I have always loved and most likely why I love trimming the sentiments out like I do.  The set is called So Sorry from TT.

I mentioned in my last post that I don't really decorate for Easter but I wanted to share what I did do.  The dollar store "nests" I mentioned above were attached to a big bunch of twigs.  I cut them off and placed them under these glass cloches.  While they aren't a big splash of pastel colour I love that they are so simple and pretty.  I have 4 total so there are 2 others randomly placed in the house.  Have a wonderful Easter weekend friends!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Random Stuff To Share

 

 

 

On Friday I blogged the card in this post for the Embellish Magazine challenge  (thanks for all the love it received on SCS's Facebook page and here on my blog.....love that!) but I must confess it was actually card number 2.  The card above is the first one I made for the challenge but I realized it wasn't cutting it when it came to the required colors....light blue, bright blue, light yellow, dark yellow.  I used patterned paper from Cosmo Cricket to make those rolled flowers and you can sorta kinda see (ok not at all) how I was hoping it worked for the colors.  Yeah, not so much. 

But I still love it so I wanted to share.  The rolled flowers are so much fun to make and what a great way to use up some smaller pieces of patterned paper you've been keeping.  I highly recommend the die which is the rolled rose from My Favorite Things stamp company.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next up.  A couple of weeks ago I went to Kimberley BC with a couple of friends to enjoy a mountain getaway at a rented condo.  Good food, cocktails and great friends.  You'd think it couldn't get any better than that but it did.....there was a private hot tub on the deck which I loved. 

One of my friends is super crafty and one is not but I thought it would be fun to have a little project for all of us to do.  I put together a kit to make these cute little button tags one night.  I die cut a bunch of tags, took a huge container of buttons, embroidery threads, fabric, inks, stamps and adhesives.  {{Glue Dots really are your best friend when it comes to making these}}.  I think the girls really enjoyed it and here are the ones I made.   Aren't they fun? 

 

 

 

This one was my favorite.  I truly love this stamp set and dies.  I feel like Papertrey made it just for me.

 

 

 

This past weekend it was Mike's birthday and I made him a 2 layer white cake with chocolate buttercream icing.  I'm not a big fan of cake mixes (unless it's Angel food cake or brownie mix .....which BTW I swear the Walmart no name Good Value brand brownie mix is the best)and this white cake recipe was super easy.  The recipe called for Almond Extract and that was SO GOOD!  I will make this again for sure.  Yumm-o!

 

 

 

 

Last but not least I wanted to share a couple of Easter cards from a shoe box swap I did with some other girlfriends about a month ago.  {Does anyone else do shoebox swaps too?}  Anywho....my super duper creative and genius friend Brenda designed these cards for us to make.  OMG the cuteness is killing me so I just had to share.  I don't think I'll ever part with these and I'm pretty sure they will be used for Easter decor each year.  Not that I really decorate for Easter but I might now!

 

This weekend my nieces were visiting and I got out the oval punches and we made each one of them a bunny.  My 3 yr old niece actually hugged hers when it was done.  So cute.

Embellish Color Trends - May Arts Crocheted Trim

 

 

 

It's time for Take 2 of the Embellish Color Trend challenge with May Arts.  WOW, you sure rocked last weeks challenge and I know you will love these colors just as much. 

 

As you can see above the colors are ~~light blue~~turquoise~~dark yellow, and ~~bright yellow.  Um, hello.......gorgeousness!!!  The required "theme" to incorporate is to use crocheted trim.

 

 

 

 

 

I made a little bouquet of rolled roses and attached 2 vertical borders of this pretty cream crocheted trim next to it.  I embossed a diamond background, embossed the polka dots and trimmed out the sentiment.  I know....there is definitely alot going on here but all the cream neutral color helped to keep it need and tidy.  At least that's my story and yep I'm addicted to making "cream" cards!  Love.

When I chose the colors for this weeks challenge I had just finished making this little flower using Papertrey's Hawaiian Shores, Simply Chartreuse and Summer Sunrise.  I used Hibiscus Burst too but I did leave out the pink that you see in the centre of the flower from the color combo.  I didn't want to freak the girls out or anything.

 

 

 

I recently bought 3 different Cuttlebug Quilling Kits which create these flowers and I have to say I love them.  Fun stuff to just sit and play.  This was my very first one I made and the pink centre ain't exactly perfect but isn't is just adorable anyway?

 

 

 

I picked up that lace trim at a local thrift store.  Great find.  

The stamps used are:  Swanky Sentiments and Harlequin Harmony.

 

 

 

 

Can I also just tell you how much I LOVE clear embossing powder on cream cardstock?  Ok I just told you.

Loonie Stampers Challenge 137

 

 

 

 Yay....it's Friday and as you are reading this I am either on my way to or already in Kimberly, BC for a girls weekend getaway.  I'm going with a couple of friends to celebrate one of their birthdays.  We are staying in a condo that has a private hot tub on the back deck and I have the ingredients for Sangria packed and ready to go.  Fun, right?  What more could I want?  Well, maybe a bag of chips.  

 

 

 

A couple of weekends ago I had some of my wonderful BFF's over for a crafty day.   We do the "shoe box swap" thing.  You know....when each person brings the materials for the other girls to make a card or project they designed.  Instead of a card I did a "Button Boutique" kit.  I put out a bunch of die cut tags, inks and bowls of buttons and embellishments.  The girls had so much fun just sitting and creating these adorable little button tags.  For this weekend at the condo I put together another kit to do the same thing.  I hope these girls enjoy it as much as the others did.

 

 

 

I hope you enjoyed our sketch this week.  My BFF Wendy made it and I love her for it but personally I think she angled that layer just to freak me out.  Doesn't she know I am a linear, straight and clean lined kinda girl?!!  OK, let's go see what the gang did.

Little Ladies

 

 

 

Is it really Monday already?  WHERE do the weekends go so fast?  Since there's really not much good to say about Monday mornings I thought I'd try to start it off with some cuteness and post this card that I made for Technique Tuesdays Splitcoaststampers gallery. 

 

 

 

I just love these vintage-y girls called Little Ladies.  I'll never pretend to be someone that can colour images so I always paper piece any chance I get.  The flowers I layered on the ribbon were cut out from the patterned paper.

Embellish Magazine Color Trend Challenge

 

 

 

 

Are those not the most gorgeous inspiration photos you've ever seen??  We can thank our very own Tina Fussell for those.  Green is my favorite colour and this challenge just makes me happy!  Our wonderful new Embellish Magazine sponsor also makes me happy!  For the next 2 challenges we have the pleasure of playing with May Arts decorative trim.  How lucky are we?

 

 

 

 

 

The Embellish team all used this fabulous crocheted decorative trim with velvet center on our creations today.  I adhered the ribbon to the card with the velvet facing in and then doubled it back over for a portion of the velvet to be visible.  I really love the crocheted and velvet combo ~~~~ so soft and vintage-y.  The die cut leaves (which are a Stampin Up die) incorporate the dark, bright and light greens required.

 

 

 

 

 

It's that easy....a few shades of green and some decorative trim.  Of course we hope you love this challenge as much as we do and will join us over at Embellish Magazine.  See you all there?

 

 

 

 



Loonie Stampers Challenge #136

 

 

 

Hey everyone....thanks for stopping in to check out our Loonie Stampers Challenge today.  At Maria's wonderful suggestion to "USE FLOWERS" this is what I made.  I had bought these little posie type flowers on Etsy at least a year ago and I think they are so pretty!  I'm happy to finally have used them.

 

I think it's hard to tell in the photo but the tan cardstock is actually what is die cut with a block of cream behind it.  In person you would be able to see it is a frame and has some depth to it.

 

 

 

The stamp sets used on this card are Loving Words by Ali Edwards  ~and~  Long Stemmed Sentiments. 

 

 

 

So there ya go.  Short and sweet.
