I have this AMAZING friend named Stephanie. If you read my Thrifty Posts you know that I talk about her often because she is my thrifty partner in crime. We love going to garage sales and thrift stores and there isn't anyone I'd rather go with. Having said that Stephanie had an adventure all on her own....which I still benefited from big time! She was away at a condo in BC a couple of weeks ago and came across a local auction. I am still amazed that she attended her FIRST auction ever....BY. HER. SELF. I've been to a number of auctions but never by myseslf (unless you consider Mike dropping me off and coming back hours later to carry my stuff "by my self"). At Steph's first auction I was on the other end of our iPhones getting texts and photos so I felt like I was there the whole day with her and it was so much fun. I am still amazed at the items she found for herself and for me. These are things that I collect and to be able to add to my collection is fantastic! She was a bidding machine! Thank you Steph!
I will do my best to remember what she paid for each item or "lot". These 6 Jadeite mugs were $15. I have some of the D handle mugs but I also have 10 of the more rare C handle Jadeite mugs in my collection.
I believe these 3 tea cups and the items in the next 2 pictures were in a box of miscellaneous items for $5. Yes you saw that right....FIVE DOLLARS. {I probably won't keep the white cups but I might try making a pin cushion with them. Maybe? Um, don't hold your breath, ok?}.
A blue Fire King chili bowl and Jadeite fruit bowl.
Both of these are Fire King. I won't keep the blue one as it's pretty damaged. The blue interior actually looks like someone spray painted it. Either that or it's just deteriorating badly.
Seriously though.....is this not the cutest fridgie you've ever seen? I'm sure the Pyrex fridgie collectors would disagree but I LOVE it so much. It's living in my fridge right now. I will use it to put wrapped cut onions or limes in. I use canning jars for that now but the fridgie will make for easier access.
Oh be still my Fire King loving heart! These blue mixing bowls were $25. I had told her to bid up to $45 so I got a deal. I already have this exact set but that just means I now have one to display and one set to put to use. They've already come in handy a couple of times.
Here is my original mixing bowl set with the other blue Fire King I have. I bought these items from my wonderful friend Laura. In fact when I bought her entire Fire King Blue and Jadeite collection it doubled my own. Heaven.
These darling little McCoy's were $15. It was in a box of other items which Steph and I split. The yellow and the blue have a small chip each but it doens't matter one bit to me.
When thrifting there is nothing better than to turn over a piece and find this stamp.
I only have 2 other McCoy items which are these planters. This was my first. I bought it at an antique sale for $80. That wasn't "thrifty" but I love it and have no regrets.
This one is pretty much the same as the one above but it is a bit bigger and more greenish than blue. I paid $40 for it on Kijiji. Steph has recently pointed out that this style comes in several colours but I'm going to refrain and stick to these 2 in this style.
Thanks for stopping by. We are getting ready to go spend 10 days at the farm shortly. I'm not sure if I'll find anything thrifty while away but you know I'll give it a shot. Maybe I'll get lucky and there will be some auctions in town.
