Technique Tuesday Printable Blog Hop

 

Hi everyone!  As you may know (or not) I’m a Stamping Tech for Technique Tuesday, and I’m excited to be taking part in a blog hop today with my fellow stamping pals!

 

 

 

 

Today, all of us are playing with the new Printables that Technique Tuesday recently debuted at the scrapbook conventions they go to. These three printed sheets (Candy Cane Wishes, Harvest Time and Hocus Pocus) consist of designs you can cut up and use to decorate cards, scrapbook pages and other fun paper crafted projects. They will be available through TechniqueTuesday.com soon.

 

 

 

 

I'm always buying different and fun bottles of pop to have on hand (I'm not sure why since I only drink Diet Pepsi. Ha.)  Think Jones Soda, Pick a Pop and now these "Frosties".  The blue soda (oh how healthy are we in this household!!) seemed like the perfect choice for the "Witches Brew" label don'tcha think?  I'll save these decorated bottles to give to my neighbors kiddo's for Halloween {{note to self:  check expiry date on the pop}}.

 

 

 

 

I also threw together a card with the cut out printables.  This card took maybe 5 steps and I love how fun it turned out.  I'm gonna need to go out this weekend and buy some candy......now that I'm in the mood for Halloween, ya know!

Embellish Color Trends Challenge - Embossed Flowers

 

 

 

 

Happy Friday to you all!  I am smiling cuz we are going to have some great weather this weekend and my BFF is coming over for a lazy day of food and drinks on the deck (you're all invited too!).  I cannot wait.  We might as well enjoy the weather when we can as yesterday was seriously cold here.  It felt like fall which freaks me out.  I haven't had a chance to enjoy the summer yet so I don't want it to go anywhere!!!

 

 

 

 

 

Are you ready for the current Embellish Magazine Color Trends Challenge?  I think you are going to love this one.  The colors are great.......Green, Red, Kraft and Cream.  The "extra" requirement is to use embossed flowers on your creation.  You can heat emboss a flower or dry emboss a flower.  Or you can heat emboss a dry embossed flower  ;) 

 

 

 

 

These colors were great and while they do make me think of Christmas I say they make for a great summer card.  How can you not SMILE around such happy colors?

Thrifty Finds

 

Happy Sunday everyone!  I'm here to share my finds that I picked up while we were at Mikes family farm in Manitoba.  I mentioned a few days ago that there is a new store in the town that had opened since we'd last been there.  It's called JAM Antiques and run by a girl from England.  I asked how she ended up in this small town called Virden in Canada and she told me she met her "farm boy" hubby and this is where he was from.  Geez, I met my "farm boy" hubby 14 years ago and I never once thought to open a store there.  Damn, I missed out.  Anywho, it was a great store and I was more than happy to support her venture.  You will see some of my finds aren't exactly "thrifty" but not everything I love costs .50 cents. ;) 

 

 

I purchased these great old milk bottles with carrier for $15.  I think they will look great with flowers in them and I asked my MIL to dry some of her gorgeous Hydrangeas for me next year.  The bottles washed up great.

 

 

 

 

Metal wire locker baskets.  These weighed in at $20 each but they are fantastic and worth it.  I will use them on the top shelf of my front closet for scarfs and mittens etc.   

 

 

 

 

From what I could see on Etsy I paid  a little less than what the going rate appears to be.  I have #492 & #719.  Doesn't it make you wonder where the other 717 baskets are?  {{I'd buy more.  hee.}}

 

 

 

 

Across the street from JAM is a little thrift store.  I love glass that looks like "old" glass and think it's so pretty.  The 2 top ones were .25 cents and the square one was .75 cents as you can see.

 

 

 

 

Also at the thrift store the mail wall hanger was .25 cents.  I will hang it inside my front closet and use it for note pads, pens and scissors.  I even like the pattern but it could easily be spray painted.  The ironstone platter was $1.00 and the cute Pyrex bowl was .25 cents and I grabbed that for my Pyrex collecting friend, Stephanie.  I normally would never purchase white Pyrex for her but this one was unique and for a quarter how can you go wrong? 

 

 

 

 

I'm not sure why I'm so attracted to this old style of pottery but I do love it.  The orange planter was $2.00.  The container of 25 little model enamel paints was $4.00........and that was pricey at the thrift store.  LOL. 

 

 

 

 

These are all vintage little aprons.  And when I say little I mean.....teeny tiny little.  They made people smaller back then.  They ranged from .50 cents to $1.00 each.  I bought these for my nieces to play dress up with.  I'm sure they'd much rather be princesses but I'm going to turn them into housekeepers.  hee. 

 

 

 

 

Seriously.....how small were housewives in the 50's and 60's??

 

 

 

 

Now for my most FAVORITE purchase!   A very 70's (I'm guessing) vintage magazine stand.  OK yes, it advertises Penthouse magazine but hello....that's why I love it.  You might have figured out by now that I like unique items and this is about the most unique I've found so far.  You won't find this at Ikea that's for sure.  My magazines are out of control in my craft room so I knew it would be used as well as be funky.  I paid $35.  Love it. 

 

 

 

 

It's a retail stand and the brown pieces slide forward obviously to hide the front cover.  My MIL was so funny trying to figure out a way for me to remove the "advertising".  Those are not going anywhere but I didn't tell her that.    

 

 

 

So there you have it.  My newest fun items!  Garage sale season has been long over where I am but there's always the thrift stores to feed my need.

My Next DIY Projects

 

This week I received happy mail!  I received my order of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and some Anna Maria Horner fabric for my next DIY projects.  I can hardly contain my excitement people!  If you've never heard of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint you really need to check out this post on the Perfectly Imperfect blog.  Watch the videos!!  Trust me......you will want to place an order as fast as I did once you do.  One of my all time FAV blogs for sure.  That girl is a do-er!

 

I have 2 pieces of furniture that I am going to paint.  One is a fugly curio cabinet that was destined for the donation pile and the other is a dresser that I got for free on Kijiji.  I'm hoping the curio will turn out great and I can actually use it.  The peachy sheen finish on it now is horrid.  So 80's but yet I bought it in the 90's.  Ha.  {{I'll be sure to show before and after photos once I actually do these projects.  I'm just not sure when that will be}}.

 

I won't lie.....this paint costs a pretty penny.  It is about $40 for a pint (+ shipping) but the price is well worth it to me because I will be saving time by not having to do any prep work.  This paint must be magic because no sanding or priming will be required to the furniture before I paint it.  Um, yeah.....SOLD!   If you live in Canada the only current stockist is The Melon Patch in Ontario.  Just contact Elizabeth and she will take care of you.

I ordered this Anna Maria Horner print from Etsy to recover it with.  Oooooh it's purdy and I think it's going to look smashing!  Did I mention I have NO idea how to actually recover anything?  Come to think of it I don't know how to paint either but that's not stopping me.  Huh, how hard can it be?  Now where's my staple gun?

Hello My Friend(s)!

 

 

 

 

OMWord I feel like I'm not even a card maker anymore.  Seriously it's been forever since I crafted and posted a card "just because" so I figured I better get to it so you know I am alive.  I AM ALIVE!  This summer is flying by isn't it?  I've been doing my best to just enjoy it and go with the flow.  It seems like I've taken a bit of a break from the craft room without intentionally doing so.  I'll get back there don't you worry!

 

Work is crazy busy but it is what it is.  Though, I do have to say.....enough with the floods and fires already! (yes, I work in Insurance....don't judge).  We just got back from a week at the farm and it was great.  So relaxing, so peaceful and my MIL is the best.  We were so sad to have to come home to real life and work.  The cherry on the top was that in town there is now a thrift store and a really cute antique/second hand store called "Jam Antiques".  Loved that store.  Why didn't I think of moving there and opening that store?!!!  ha.  I'll share my thrifty finds on the weekend and I'll also be back soon to show you a couple if items I just received in the mail for future DIY projects.  I'm super excited!

Embellish Color Challenge - Coloring

 

 

 

 

Well hello!  I'm here with my second card using the fab stamps from our current sponsor.  The Craft’s Meow.  The colors are oh so summery and work perfectly for the stamp set that I am using, which is called..... Baggin’ Some Rays.  The set has an assortment of truly adorable suns.  The banner is created from cutting up the polka dot sun.  Thanks to super talented Sarah for that idea!

 

 

 

 

 

 

I'm going to have to be honest here and tell you that the only item that is actually coloured is the sun.....and not even very good at that.  This card was really fun to make and I hope you all enjoy it. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I'm going to leave this short and sweet as I am currently at the in-laws family farm for a weeks getaway.  It's been so peaceful and relaxing here.  I had some blog posts uploaded and ready to publish while I was here but soon realized that my iPad would only give me the HTML option to finished typing the posts.  Well, if you know me then you know that computers are so not my thing.  I am typing this from a friends Mac at a neighboring farm.  I'll be home on Saturday and I'm excited to tell you that I have some great thrifty items to share over the next couple of weeks.
